Calf Paratyphoid (Live) (16X5ml)
Freeze-dried, avirulent (rough) strain of Salmonella dublin for the prophylactic immunisation of calves against paratyphoid caused by S. dublin
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
Calves usually contract paratyphoid at the age of 4-6 weeks and all calves must, therefore, be immunised beforehand at the age of 2-3 weeks.
If calves younger than 2 weeks of age contract the disease, the sick calves should be treated and the healthy ones immediately immunised.
The vaccine will only afford adequate immunity to S. dublin infections but will not necessarily elicit complete protection in all animals.
The vaccine affords only a moderate cross immunity against S. typhimurium infections and if problems are encountered in immunised calves, a veterinarian should be consulted immediately.
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination. Vaccinate healthy animals only.
Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
Since the vaccine contains live bacteria, the immune response will be jeopardised by antibiotic therapy.
Consequently, calves should not be treated with antibiotics or nitrofurans for eight days before and two weeks after immunisation.
Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons.
If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for at least 15 minutes.
Do not use disinfectants or methylated spirits for sterilising either needles or syringes.
Use a separate sterile needle for each animal.
Transfer approximately 2 ml of the 10 ml sterile diluent to the bottle containing the freeze-dried vaccine.
Mix well and then transfer the suspension back to the remaining sterile diluent.
Mix well again and administer this suspension without delay.
A single injection is sufficient.
Avoid exposure of the vaccine to high temperatures and direct sunlight.
DOSAGE: 5 ml subcutaneously
EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE A temperature reaction which lasts for 2-4 days may occur after injection but the vaccine has no other ill effects. Immunity develops 7-10 days after immunisation but cannot be guaranteed in all animals.
Store the vaccine in a refrigerator at 4 ˚C to 8 ˚C. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the bottle.
