- CapeCross
Formalinised aluminium hydroxide gel adsorbed anaculture of Clostridium septicum for the immunisation of sheep, goats and cattle against Cl. septicum infection (malignant oedema)
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
Cl. septicum causes wound infection in sheep and is occasionally responsible for malignant oedema in sheep and cattle. Positive diagnosis of the disease is extremely difficult and the assistance of a veterinarian should be acquired. Animals may be inoculated at any age from two weeks depending on circumstances and the incidence of the disease. Each animal should receive two initial subcutaneous injections with an interval of four weeks and
subsequently a single yearly booster injection. On farms where wound infections in sheep are common, sheep should be inoculated 3-4 weeks before shearing.
WARNINGS
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination. Vaccinate healthy animals only. Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Do not inject intramuscularly - causes intramuscular lesions. Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for at least 15 minutes. Do not use disinfectants or methylated spirits for sterilising either syringes or needles. If possible use a separate needle for each animal. Shake the bottle well before use. Avoid exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight during inoculation.
DOSAGE:
Sheep and goats: 2 ml subcutaneously
Cattle: 5 ml subcutaneously
EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE
Though there is practically no reaction following the administration of the vaccine, small swellings may occur at the site of inoculation. Complete immunity is effected about two weeks after the injection and provides protection for 9-12 months but cannot be guaranteed in all animals.
Store the vaccine at a temperature of 4 ˚C to 8 ˚C, in a refrigerator. Do not use the vaccine after the expiry date printed on the bottle.
