Enterotoxaemia (Oil) Pulpy Kidney 100 x 1ml
Formalinised oil-emulsion toxoid of Clostridium perfringens (welchii) type D for the immunisation of sheep and goats against enterotoxaemia (Pulpy kidney disease)
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
Lambs may be immunised from 4-5 months of age or even sooner if they are weaned at an early age. The best immunity is obtained when animals are first given an injection of this oil-emulsion vaccine followed by a second injection of the alum-precipitated vaccine 4-6 weeks later. If lambs younger than 4 months of age are immunised a booster injection of the alum-precipitated vaccine should be given after 6-8 months. Thereafter an annual booster injection of the alum-precipitated vaccine should be given.
NB: Lambs younger than 2 months and animals in poor condition, infected with internal parasites or which are suffering from other diseases will not immunise well. Pregnant ewes may safely be immunised with this vaccine.
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination. Vaccinate healthy animals only. Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Animals which have previously been inoculated with oil-based products may develop a reaction at the injection site.
Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for at least 15 minutes. Do not use disinfectants or methylated spirits for sterilising either syringes or needles. If possible use a separate needle for each animal. Avoid exposure to high temperature and direct sunlight during inoculation. Administer the vaccine subcutaneously in the groin or behind the shoulder. When cold, the vaccine is rather thick and difficult to administer but by keeping it at room temeprature for a short while it will soon become thinner and easier to apply. Shake the bottle well before use.
DOSAGE: 1 ml subcutaneously
EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE
The vaccine may cause a temporary local swelling at the injection site and it is undesirable to administer this vaccine more than once. Immunity develops approximately 10-14 days after vaccination and protect animals for a year or longer but cannot be guaranteed in all animals.
Store the vaccine at a temperature of 4 ˚C to 8 ˚C, in a refrigerator. Do not use the vaccine after the expiry date printed on the bottle.
