Formalinised aluminium hydroxide adsorbed toxoid of Clostridium tetani for the immunisation of sheep, goats, cattle, horses, pigs and dogs against tetanus
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:
Tetanus frequently occurs as a result of contamination of wounds with the organism. Animals which are vaccinated for the first time at the age of three months or older should receive two inoculations at an interval of 4-6 weeks.
Thereafter they are inoculated only once a year to maintain immunity. To protect animals younger than three months at the time of docking, castration and possible navel infection after birth, the dam should be inoculated for the first time at six weeks and again at two weeks before parturition, and thereafter only once annually 2-4 weeks before the young are born. In this manner the young obtain colostral immunity which will protect them for a period of 8-10 weeks. At the age of three months they can be inoculated as described before.
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination. Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for at least 15 minutes. Do not use disinfectants or methylated spirits for sterilising either needles or syringes. Use a separate sterile needle for each animal. Shake the bottle well before use. Avoid exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight.
Horses: 1 ml intramuscularly
Other animals: 1 ml subcutaneously
EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE:
A small local swelling may occur at the site of injection but it soon disappears. In horses, however, more extensive oedematous swellings may develop but these also disappear within a few days. Following the first two and the subsequent annual inoculations, stock should be immune for at least 9-12 months but immunity cannot be guaranteed in all animals.
Store the vaccine at a temperature of 4 ˚C to 8 ˚C in a refrigerator. Do not use after the
expiry date printed on the bottle
